Attention TV executives! Making the commercials louder than the shows doesn’t make us pay more attention to the products; it makes us mute and, consequently, ignore them.

If the commercials are clever and interesting we will watch them…at normal volume levels.
That is all.

When I eat I need to have a drink handy. Sometimes when I eat something dry it’ll get stuck in my throat and it becomes very uncomfortable. Depending on its size and consistency I may be able to wash it down, causing extreme discomfort as it stretches my esophagus, but it’s better than the alternative:

Three times in the last couple years, including this morning, food has gotten so stuck in my throat that I can’t easily wash it down and I begin to choke. The house I live in is fairly big so it’s unlikely that anyone will hear my feeble attempts at calling/banging for help, and no one was awake when it happened this morning. Luckily I was able to get it down by relaxing, which is hard to do when your mind is screaming at you about how embarassing it will be to be found killed by a Hot Pocket!

My mother says she had the same problem, so I’ll most likely have to take some pills to alleviate it. In the meantime I’ve had a wonderful barium swallow test (blech!) and I should know the results next week.

This morning I was woken up to the sounds of my wife yelling out in pain and a thump. She had lost her balance going down the stairs with Geoffrey in her arms and twisted her ankle good. The boy’s fine, but was quite upset at the stairs for hurting his mommy.

I couldn’t have the work cell phone on at the hospital — that’s what reminded me to post that last bit of info.

Mellissa should be back on her feet within the week. Nothing broken.

Jim’s alone time: -50%

Mood:

My job requires that I carry a cell phone around on the weekends and evenings one week out of three. I get paid a small bonus for this but it’s a crap shoot as to whether I’ll have a quiet evening or not. It’s really frustrating sometimes when I get call after call, and especially when it’s hardware failures that I can’t do anything about until I get back into the office.

In addition, I have to keep the phone on until midnight, and I have to get up at 6:30am in order to be at work by 8.

All work and no play make Jim something something.

Good idea, baaaad implementation. Monolith screwed up big time on this one.

Looks like Penny Arcade concurs…

I have a temper.
I have a 15-month old son.
See a problem?

Whenever I have a pop or chips or something my son Geoffrey invariably climbs up on the sofa and grabs them when I’m not paying attention. This latest pop-grab absolutely soaked the sofa and I yelled big time. He’s visiting grandma and grandpa on the other side of the house right now.

I can’t wait until I can actually reason with him.
