Woohoo! Labour Day, combined with being on emergency support last week, have converged to give me a double-long weekend starting today!

Now for a marathon session of sitting on my ass doing nothing…

This freeze-up problem which lead to no video made no sense, so I plugged all my drives back in and got my video back after all, but Windows would still hard-lock just before the first systray icon would initialize.
I disabled the CD burner and PRESTO! Boots up fine! Why the FUCK would removing some of my drives have such an effect on the video card?!

I finally traced the problem to the original CD I burned, which was still in the drive. When Windows tried to verify the drive contents on Windows startup it again froze…bad burn!

Thank YOU, Nero 6!
/me downgrades back to v5.5…

My computer is down.
At first it froze up after I burned a CD, then I unplugged the CD burner, then I had no video at all!
I tried another video card and monitor but still nothing. It looks like my not-even-8-month-old motherboard’s AGP slot is toast.

I didn’t even want a freaking Gigabyte board in the first place, but A-Power was out of AGP8x MSI motherboards at the time.

Years ago, a little after EverQuest was followed by Asheron’s Call, I had an idea:

Create a sci-fi-based MMORPG where you could have dogfights in space, land on planets and do Everquest-y things, etc. The Wing Commander franchise would have been ideal had it not been run into the ground, but a couple years later Star Wars: Galaxies was announced, and the first expansion to that game will allow space combat!

In the hopes of spurring another online phenomenon, I make another prediction for the next “big” multiplayer game:

Grand Theft Auto Online!

Get on it, Rockstar Games!

My father-in-law’s insurance company told him just yesterday that they wouldn’t cover his homeowner’s insurance because of the exterior of the house. Unless he wants to pay twice the premiums or default on the mortgage we have to paint the house FAST.
This house is huge. The majority of the front of the house may be painted by tomorrow, but I worked 11 hard hours today. What a nice long weekend…
