I just got rear-ended. In my car.
I had stopped at a 4-way, and there were some kids at the corner, about to enter the crosswalk across the street, so I waited. They were halfway across when I felt the impact. My neck got jerked back and I only moved a few feet before reflex caused me to press down harder on the brakes.

The guy said his brake pedal was wet, and I believe him; I had to wipe dew off the side mirrors when I started up the car. Hasn’t that happened to us all at some point in our lives, that our foot slides off the brake? Usually it happens when someone isn’t directly in front of us, though.

I’m still a bit in shock. My neck is aching somewhat, though I seem to have full mobility. The car, surprisingly, has no discernible damage. Yay, Toyota Tercel!

Yes, I’m going to see the doctor. His office is just not open yet.

A few weeks ago I started DM’ing Egg of the Phoenix, one of my favourite Dungeons & Dragons module from way back when I was in high school (back when they called it Secondary School, with capital letters and everything).

I’ve had to convert the module from to AD&D to the current v3.5 rules, and boy does it take a while! I’ve had literally months to work on it and am only slightly ahead of my players’ progress. The main thing taking all the time is the converting of NPCs (Non-Player Characters to those not in the know; virtual characters controlled by myself, for good or ill). Thank goodness for PCGen or I’d have given up by now. I have only so much time in the week, too. Having a kid really cuts into the old hobby time, lemme tell ya!

On Thursday work bought us all (well, those who wanted them) flu vaccine shots. My arm was a bit numb and then sore for a while afterward, and the next day I slept in because it sucked all my energy, but at least I didn’t throw up and have to visit the emergency room later, like one of my co-workers. I think it was nerves more than anything else, though; she hates needles — couldn’t even bring herself to watch anyone getting the shot beforehand.

Saturday’s weather was so nice that we just had to go out and play some ball hockey. Unfortunately, it was the worst time we’ve ever had for injuries, with Mike getting not only a slap shot to the gut, but also a ball to the face that precipitated some blood. On the plus side, I scored an inordinate number of goals.

That night the family had some roast, and then my choking problem kicked in again. I had a piece of meat stuck in my esophagus and it wasn’t going down. Once it got to the point that I was having trouble breathing I rushed to the sink to try the ol’ finger-down-the-throat technique, but despite the initial relief of being able to breathe through a recently-spasmed throat (I guess it relaxes afterwards), that damn dead cow was determined to take me with it. After 10 minutes of extreme discomfort and some near-hyperventilation trying to overcompensate, out it came. Surprisingly small for the kind of hell it put me through. The gristle holding the two halves together was the problem, as half of it must have gone down and the other half stuck, hanging on to my esophagean shelf like a climber for dear life.

On Sunday I baked another carrot cake for my Mom’s birthday and we all watched Troy.
